The Best Flotation Tool For Learning to Swim...

And An Epic Rant by Coach Jeff...

Someone asked me today:

“I can kick across the pool with a kickboard, but I’m scared to try it without one… How do I stop using it?”

That question comes up every week — and I get it.
It feels like the kickboard is your lifeline.

But here's the truth no one tells you:

  • The kickboard is lying to you.

  • So is the noodle.

  • So is any flotation tool that makes you feel “safe.”

You’re not trusting the water.
You’re not trusting yourself.
You’re trusting a piece of foam or plastic.

And when it’s gone — so is your confidence.

Let’s break it down:

What flotation devices do:

  1. Keep you buoyant

  2. Help you feel relaxed

  3. Let you swim farther

Sounds helpful, right?

But here’s what they actually do:

🚫 Prevent you from learning to use your lungs to float naturally
🚫 Block you from trusting the water itself
🚫 Trick you into thinking “distance = skill” (it doesn’t — control does)

Here’s what we believe at Caribe Swim:

You were born with the best flotation device on Earth — your own lungs.

Everything else is just training wheels that never teach you how to ride.

It’s one of the most important mindset shifts you can make:

Let go of the tool.
Learn to trust the water.
And most importantly, learn to trust you.
