Today, my students learned how to breathe while swimming using this simple 3-step progression.
Step 1: Standing Breath
Hold your breath for a count of 3
Exhale on 4
Lift your head and inhale on 5
Repeat

Step 2: Walking Breath While Pulling
Lift your head on Pull #1 (at the start of the stroke)
Return your head into the water
Complete 1 non-breathing pull
Repeat

Step 3: Breathing While Swimming
Lift your head on Pull #1 (at the start of the stroke)
Return your head into the water
Complete 1 non-breathing pull
Repeat

Learning to breathe takes time.
Be patient with yourself.
