How to Swim in 4 Steps

Learning to swim in 2026.

Happy New Year.

My goal for 2026 is simple:

Teach YOU how to swim.

I’m going to do that by giving away the best, clearest information on how you can learn to swim — without fear, confusion, or overwhelm.

If you read these newsletters and watch my YouTube videos, you can teach yourself to swim 100% for free.

And if you want support implementing what I share, you’ll have options — community support, virtual programs, and in-person retreats in Puerto Rico.

More on that later.

Let’s start the year by simplifying the entire swimming process.

The 4 Skills Every Swimmer Must Learn (In Order)

Learning to swim can be broken into four categories:

  1. How to relax — and stay relaxed

  2. How to float

  3. How to move

  4. How to breathe

Each one builds on the next.

Think of it like building a house.
You can’t build the roof before the foundation — or the whole thing collapses.

Swimming works the same way.

The Foundation: Relaxation + Floating

Relaxation comes first.

Because without relaxation, floating is impossible.

Here’s why:

  • Fear creates tension

  • Tension makes the body more dense

  • Density causes sinking

  • Sinking is the opposite of floating

So if we want to float, we must first remove tension from the body.

That’s not about strength or effort.
It’s about learning how to relax on purpose.

How We Do That

We use a simple relaxation process that includes:

  • Breath work

  • Visual relaxation (don’t be intimidated — everyone can do this)

  • A gentle stretching and warm-up routine

Tomorrow, I’ll walk you through examples of each step, so make sure to open the next email when it arrives.
