Hey, It’s Coach Jeff:
Yesterday, someone in our community shared a post that stopped me in my tracks.
One word.
“Belonging”
What a powerful word.
It reminded me of my own journey
And why I do this work.
When I was 24 I left my job in finance to teach swimming.
People laughed. No one with a Notre Dame degree leaves finance to teach swimming lessons.
But I did.
And the past 15 years?
They haven’t been easy.
I have received multiple MBAs in The School of Hard Knocks.
I’ve failed more times than I can count.
And I’ve celebrated a few wins along the way.
But here’s the most undeniable truth I’ve learned.
Our adult learn-to-swim community is special.
It’s full of people with deep, personal stories:
Near-drowning incidents
Childhood Traumas
Shame for never learning
And fear that’s been bottled up for decades
Like Nuruh.
Before the community, she felt alone-like she was the only one who didn’t know how to swim.
DID YOU KNOW: 52% of adults in the United States & 60% of the adult population worldwide cannot swim well enough to save their own life.
But when she joined our community and shared her story, something amazing happened
She was met with love.
Support.
Community.
She belonged.
Thats the secret no one tells you about learning to swim as an adult:
Yes, it’s about learning how to breathe, float, propulsion, & technique.
But deeper than that-its about healing.
It’s about connection.
It’s about finally belonging somewhere that understands your journey.
Looking back, every failure and adjustment brought me closer to THIS mission.
I don’t teach swimming anymore.
I create belonging.
